A unique challenge we have in the Northwest is the desire to have stringent energy performance requirements, while also meeting high seismic zone engineering challenges. As a result, the Tacoma Convention Hotel required Mission Glass to team up with Kawneer to re-design a window wall system that was designed for the Hawaii market for high seismic movement, however, it didn't meet the stringent energy code design requirements for the Northwest. The revised system incorporated additional thermal breaks to help improve both the insulating value as well as the condensation resistance.

The system utilized 3M's Very High Bond (VHB) Structural Glazing Tape to cleanly and efficiently bond all of the insulated glass panels, as well as the Alpolic ACM composite panels to the window wall chassis.

This project was the tallest building to be erected in the downtown Tacoma region in many years, and now stands as a prominent feature of the Tacoma skyline. With the successful delivery of this project, Mission Glass now stands poised to successfully deliver high rise projects throughout the Northwest region and beyond.
